Katherine Tu’s research interests include gender and queer studies, Anthropology, Chinese literature (contemporary and Late Imperial period), and popular culture. Her current work examines how Chinese Danmei/BL literature and its community, especially among queer participants, uses literary practices to shape online queer community formation, erotic imaginaries, and creative production under state censorship and market pressures. She is also interested in the transgressive gender and sexuality expression in the Late Imperial erotic novels and strange tales.
