POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultural Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, invites applications for the position of Lecturer for the 2021-2022 academic year.

We seek applicants with expertise in modern and contemporary Japanese literature and film/media studies. The candidate will be expected to teach five courses, including surveys of modern or contemporary Japanese literature and cinema, one or two classes in advanced Japanese readings (readings to be chosen by the candidate), and at least one course in an area related to the candidate’s specialization.

Salary is based on UC salary scales and depends on qualifications. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship.

The Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service as appropriate to the position. QUALIFICATIONS
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Ph.D. in a relevant field at time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
Specialization in Japanese literature and film or media studies, and high-level Japanese language ability.
