Japanese 181-182-183 series is recommended to students who are interested in reading modern texts published before 1950, which contain many elements of classical grammar. It may be taken concurrently with the Japanese 144-145-146 series. Please refer to course descriptions for prerequisites, quarters when the courses are offered and class meeting times.

STUDENTS WITH PREVIOUS JAPANESE STUDY

Students who studied Japanese in other colleges or high school will be placed in appropriate classes based on the placement exam and/or an interview with a faculty member of the language program. Consult with a faculty member in the program.

HERITAGE LANGUAGE LEARNERS

Students who grew up speaking Japanese at home should consult with Professor Narahara, Professor Sugawara or Professor Shinagawa, and take a placement test. Japanese 7H is especially designed for those who can speak but lack reading and writing skills necessary to join a third year level course.
