0-30 Chinese 1,2,3,4,5,6; or Japanese 1,2,3,4,5,6
8 Two courses from: Art History 6D; Chinese 33; Comparative Literature 31; EACS 2, 3, 20, 21; Japanese 22, 25, 27, 32, 63; History 80, 84, 85, 87; Korean 82

Junior Year

EAP year in China, Japan, Hong Kong or Taiwan, covering:
12-15 Third-year language study

Upper-division non-language courses required for major

Admission to Five-Year BA/MA:

  Students take GRE's and apply for admission by the end of the Junior year. Decision on admission is made before fall quarter of 4th year.

Combined Senior and Graduate Year (Fourth Year):

A minimum of 36 units in Chinese, Japanese or East Asian Cultural Studies distributed as follows:
4-12 Classical language series
12-20 Remainder of Undergraduate upper-division courses in Chinese or Japanese major, including fourth-year level language
4 Bibliography and Research Methods seminar (Chinese 211 or Japanese 211)
12 Two other upper-division or graduate courses in specialization

Graduate Year (Fifth Year):

A minimum of 36 units in Chinese, Japanese or East Asian Cultural Studies distributed as follows:
8-12 Remaining Core Graduate Seminars in East Asian Studies
16-24 Electives in upper division or graduate courses in specialization, possibly combined with first year study of a second East Asian Language.
4-12 MA thesis or Comprehensive Examinations
