CHINESE LANGUAGE PEDAGOGY AND LINGUISTICS

The specialization in (1) Chinese linguistics is an interdisciplinary program designed to produce Chinese language experts in both theory and practice to respond to the growing demand in these fields. The program integrates studies of linguistics and its pedagogical applications. Students may choose to put more focus on either the former or the latter.  To fulfill this specialization students must take two courses from those listed in (1) or (2) below as well as at least one general linguistics course from the Linguistics Department.  Students who choose (3) Language Pedagogy are required to take two courses from those listed in (3) below and at least one course from the interdepartmental Applied Linguistics Emphasis (for details, see www.linguistics.ucsb.edu).
