Welcome to the U.C. Santa Barbara Confucius Institute

The Confucius Institute was established at U.C. Santa Barbara in 2014, funded by the Office of Hanban in Beijing, China, with matching funds from UCSB.  The main task of the Confucius Institute is to promote educational exchanges and cooperation between UCSB and academic institutions in China.  We will work with our partner university in China, Shandong University, to strengthen and support China Studies, including the learning of the Chinese language, as well as humanistic and social science research on China.  The Institute organizes lectures, film screenings, academic workshops and conferences, and cultural and artistic performances and events at U.C. Santa Barbara.  It also provides some fellowships and grants for research and travel for UCSB graduate students and faculty pursuing China Studies.  We also seek to enhance the friendship and interaction between students and scholars from China and American and other students studying at UCSB.  Furthermore, we also make outreach efforts with the larger community of the city of Santa Barbara County and the Tri-County area of Santa Barbara, Ventura, and San Luis Obispo.
