Tourism in East Asia

Kochi, Japan

Kochi calls itself "Japan's friendliest city" on its official website.  It is located on the southern side of Shikoku, and tourists can go there to visit the beautiful Pacific coast.  One of its famous residents is composer Nobuo Uematsu, who composed music for the Final Fantasy video game series.  The city is also home to the Okawa-suji Samurai Residence, an important cultural property that opened for tourists in 1999.  Local residents have made great efforts to preserve this historical home.

Lecture Connection
The Okawa-suji Samurai Residence was the topic of Professor Luke Roberts' in-class guest lecture on Tuesday, November 7, 2006.
