Mt. Keumkang and the Kyongju Area

Mt. Keumkang is the second-highest peak in North Korea.  It has been known for its natural beauty for centuries. In recent years, the government of North Korea has opened the mountain and the surrounding area to South Korean tourists, who now visit at a rate of about 240,000 per year.
Kyongju was the first city to be the capital of a unified Korea.  Today, it is known as the "Museum Without Walls."  The Kyongju Historic Areas are a World Heritage Site because they contain many outstanding examples of Korean Buddhist art and architecture.
