| Ashibetsu,
called the "Stardust City," is located on Japan's
northernmost island,
Hokkaido. It is home to Canadian World, a
theme park where visitors can experience the setting of the classic
novel Anne of Green Gables.
It's a little-known fact outside Japan that this novel is
extremely popular in that country. The city also offers a ski
resort and an attraction called Kita
no Miyako ("Capital of the North"), which features a water park,
spas, and the world's largest statue of the Buddhist deity Kannon. Reading Connection Canadian World is mentioned in the article "Foreign Country Theme Parks: A New Theme or an Old Japanese Pattern?" by Joy Hendry.
