Placement Tests

For students who have previously taken language classes or have a background in the following East Asian Language: Chinese or Japanese-  a placement test is required for you to take before signing up for a language course at UCSB.

For those who need to take the Chinese Language Placement, please go to this website and complete the pre-evaluation form under ‘Placement Test.’

Please note that there is a placement test in the beginning of each quarter. Though it is ideal that you take the one in Fall, if you end up missing the evaluation, you will have other opportunities in Winter and Spring.
